Book List

Here you can find some books I have read and loved, and also a few that are on my 'to read' list.

Baylei's Recommendations

The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh
My go-to recommendation, a story about a young girl who grew up in the foster-care system, making connections with others through the Victorian language of flowers. 4.1/5 on Goodreads

Quiet by Susan Cain
A non-fiction option that educates it’s readers on the importance of introverts. Good to read whether you are introverted or extroverted. 4/5 on Goodreads

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
A story that I read long ago, but still have fond memories of. Learn about one woman’s search for everything, as she indulges in food, meditation, and a new beginning across the world. 3.5/5 on Goodreads
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman (or any book by Neil Gaiman, for that matter.)
I found an unexpected likeness in this story. Don’t let the heavily fantisized plot turn you off, by the end you’ll love Gaiman as much as I do. A story about an ordinary man leading an ordinary life until he is stopped by a bleeding girl on the streets of London. Once they’ve encountered each other, Richard Mahew’s life will never be the same. 4.1/5 on Goodreads
Black Swan Green by David Mitchell
A coming of age story recommended to me by my boyfriend. I was intrigued when I learned that Mitchell uses some sort of alternate universe within his novels, meaning characters from his other stories show up with no context. Tracks a single year in a 13 year old boys life, a novel of boyhood on the cusp of adulthood. 4/5 on Goodreads

The Opposite of Loneliness by Mariana Keegan
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, or know me at all, you know that I adore this book. A collection of essays and short stories by a college student known as Mariana Keegan, this book will make you question why the good die young. 3.8/5 on Goodreads

The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera
A novel that will make you think. It’s a tough read, but has a rewarding ending. A story about two women, two men, a dog, and their lives in the 1968 Prague Spring period. 4.1/5 on Goodreads
